MUSTARD SEASON ARRIVES

February welcomes Mustard Season, when the dormant vineyards are carpeted in yellow throughout Napa Valley and Sonoma. Locals and visitors enjoy Mustard Festivals with music, food and, of course, wine. The plants also serve a purpose, adding nutrients to the soil when mowed and tilled in the spring.

Another early bloomer in mid-winter are the magnolias that open up with pink and white flowers like this one at the historic Rhine House. Built in 1883 by the Beringer brothers, immigrant winemakers from Germany, the Rhine House has leaded glass, ornate woodwork and stenciled ceilings that were discovered during recent renovations. Visitors are able to taste Beringer Winery's top tier wines at the Rhine House and enjoy strolling the scenic gardens on this landmark property.
