Lavender Farming in Wine Country!

Located in scenic Bennett Valley near Sonoma, Matanzas Creek Winery doubles as a lavender farm. In mid-summer, the crop is in full bloom and attracts many visitors, fans of the fragrant flowers and their colorful glory. On this day in July, many of the visitors were from Asia - Vietnam, China, Korea, Singapore and Japan! Is lavender a traditional favorite in that part of the world, we wondered? Other visitors among the purple flowers were plenty of bumble bees, but they were too busy flying around the blossoms to be bothered by people brushing past their plants!
